A special recognition goes to Rosie and Shani who celebrated 10 years’ service with Childsplay Nursery over the summer.
Back in 2014 when they both started working for us, Childsplay was a child friendly café as well as a small private nursery.
Having never worked in the childcare sector before Rosie and Shani started working for us through the Jobs Growth Wales scheme. This scheme paid them both a monthly wage for 6 months and during this time they gained valuable working experience in the sector. On completing their 6 months we offered them both employment. Shani worked in the Nursery and Rosie as our office clerk.
Shani went onto train through Aspirations our training provider and over the following 2 years achieved her Level, 2 & 3 in Childhood Learning and Development. After taking a year out to have her son Shani then returned on a part time basis and completed her Level 4 & 5 qualification in Management and Leadership. Working her way up from a trainee nursery practitioner, she is now our Baby Room Leader and a valuable member of the Nursery Team.
Rosie completed her 6 months on the scheme in the office. Dealing with bookings, filling, phone calls and general day to day office duties. Rosie also showed an interest in working within the Café in a front of house role as well as in the kitchen preparing food for both the Cafe and the Nursery. When the Cafe closed Rosie then went on to sometimes help in the Nursery. It was from these occasional shifts Rosie decided childcare was the path for her to take. She went onto complete her Level 2 & 3 with our training provider and when the Nursery moved to new premises Rosie was offered the role of Baby Room Leader, where she assisted in the planning and organisation of the new Baby room. She continued with her training and went on to complete her Level 4 & 5. Following the re-opening of the nursery after Covid, Rosie was offered the position of Deputy manager and then our manager when the position became available.
We are extremely honoured to have Rosie as our Nursery Manager of Childsplay Nursery where she has made a huge difference in all areas of the Nursery.
Both starting from scratch with no qualifications but through hard work and dedication they are proof that following your passion in a career pays off.
